Sign in without a password
There is no password. An emailed link signs you in, and a passkey makes the next time one tap.
What you need
- The email address you gave the first time.
How
- Open the sign-in page, type your email, and press “Email me a link”.
- Open the email and tap the link. It lands on a page that asks you to press “Confirm”, so a mail scanner opening the link cannot spend it.
- You are signed in for thirty days on this device, on both hosts at once.
- After your first confirmation you are offered a passkey: “Next time, skip the email.” Press “Set up” to use Face ID, your fingerprint or your device’s own lock from then on, or “Not now” to keep using links. Nothing is lost either way.
- With a passkey on the device, the sign-in page leads with “Use this device”.
What happens then
- A link works once and for ten minutes. An old one says so: ask for a fresh one.
- One link per address per minute, and five in an hour. If you asked recently, check your inbox first.
- The sign-in page sends nothing to an address it does not know. On this host the way in for a new address is starting a club; on a Moment’s page it is “I’d love to come”.
- A link opened inside another app’s browser cannot set up a passkey. Open the page in Safari or Chrome and the offer works.
What Rally Round never does here
- Ask for a password, a date of birth or a phone number to sign in.
- Sign you in on a fetch. Every link is spent by a press.
